Wouldn't catch me walking away from Omelas. One forsaken child in exchange for a perfect civilisation? My current civ tosses thousands in a woodchipper, daily, for no discernable benefit.

Flying in your favorite aunt for the wedding: sweet, lovely, nicest thing anyone has ever done. Summoning your most glorious ancestors from across the nine hells to bear witness to our union: bad, awful, violation of nature and human dignity. I just don't understand women.

Ethical non-monogamy is great, but have you tried unethical monogamy? Both of you sitting in the corner of the party making mean comments about the other guests. Cackling until everyone feels uncomfortable. Dropping the mutagen into the water supply together at midnight.

I suppose in a way I'm quite lucky not to have had anything new published in my name since the advent of generative AI. Readers can rest assured that my books are definitely safe from its influence.

Every time my OFFLINE game of Diablo 4 disconnects from being always online and ruins an evening's pleasant gaming, I should be legally entitled to punch a Blizzard Executive directly in the throat.

I am slowly inching forward with my gilded age dinosaur murder mystery, the first piece of writing I've done in my own name for several years. And while it is very exciting... It does leaves me with the slight problem of who the hell is going to publish a gilded age dinosaur murder mystery.

Being a child is extremely difficult, particularly because you don't always have the conceptual framework and language to explain what you are experiencing. When my "picky eater" kids grew up enough they were able to perfectly articulate their reasonable issues with certain foods.

Rudyard Kipling's Mark of the Beast managed to surprise me. The racism was... present, but there were more than a few subtle jabs at the reader's own assumptions of superiority over the "foreigner." Even the resolution of the plot hinged on the British being absolute savages in comparison.

Why do I want to read Horrobbit now? In a hole in the ground, there lived a creature. A creature that can choose to be unseen. A creature with a terrible hunger... This summer... YOU ARE SECOND BREAKFAST.

Good day, kindly Womble! I've been reading Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Marys. Time travelling historians. I'm jumping out after 3 books, as it seems to have reached a good stopping point despite the vicious cliffhanger. The author's romance background shines through, with all its ups and downs

A very happy May the 4th to all who celebrate. While I may have lost faith in recent years, it is comforting to know that there are so may people out there who still believe in a force that surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together.

I could use some help spreading the word. My new little book is about two sisters who hunt down killers and collect body parts while complicating their lives with volatile magics, bizarre visions, and a mysterious mouth in the wall. Think Junji Ito meets Little Women.

Hey, y'all, just reminding you of Mage Errant's bookstore launch with Simon and Schuster! If you want to help it succeed, there's nothing better than pre-ordering now, especially through Simon and Schuster! As a side note, it will now include both Into the Labyrinth and Jewel of the Endless Erg!

I sometimes wonder how different my life would have been if I'd pursued art instead of writing. I'd spend the same 12 hours in front of the computer working every day, but if I was drawing instead of writing, I could have a podcast on. I'd be all caught up on podcasts!
