My normal birding patch is closed at the moment (Askham Bog) so went out into the fields west of Copmanthorpe and saw a pair of yellow wagtails, quite a surprise. New bird for me. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

I was out for a bike ride near Acaster Selby this afternoon and saw 7 red kites all circling the same spot then they were swooping down. Unfortunately whatever it was was behind a hedge. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

We are get lots of interesting birds in our Copmanthorpe garden at the moment. The latest is a redpoll, we had siskins a couple of years ago but this is the new addition to our garden list @yorkbirding.bsky.social @northyorksbirds.bsky.social

Another new visitor to our bird feeder in Copmanthorpe this afternoon, a goldcrest. It was very gloomy and photo taken through a window, so not great @northyorksbirds.bsky.social @yorkbirding.bsky.social

We had a new visitor to the garden this week, a female blackcap and today we saw a Treecreeper at Askham Bog @yorkbirding.bsky.social

I saw a bittern yesterday for the first time at North Cave, it was skulking in the reeds then the wind blew and I got a view of his head @yorkbirding.bsky.social @northcavebirds.bsky.social

Went to Askham Bog this afternoon and the siskins are back! Only saw a few once last winter but today there were 50+ feeding in the tops of the alder trees, winter us coming @yorkbirding.bsky.social

House martens gathering together, they will soon be heading south

Did the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this afternoon and had 3 greenfinches in a conifer tree in our garden, they are regular visitors to our feeders.
