Some games played at PAX West. Staufer Dynasty. An older Z-Man title that I randomly found at a game store. It’s territory control game with perfect information available to all players…requiring clever strategy to ultimately win out. Everyone really enjoyed it and had fun playing!

New KS delivery! Arkham Asylum the deck-building game by @cryptozoic.bsky.social along with Dark Nights Rising and Hush. I’ve always like the ease of play this game has, which lets you focus on your strategic options each turn. And being the baddies is *always* fun. 😈

We recently played Emberleaf by @cityofgameshq.bsky.social It’s incredibly easy to play. Play a card or slide all the cards in your tableau. The DEPTH of what you choose to do, however, is significantly deep. It’s a game that rewards clever play & strategic planning. Very excellent & fun time!

I got to play an early copy of the new @stonemaiergames.com game, Vantage. No spoilers, but wow. It was incredibly fun, very unexpected, and there is a TON of replayability. We were all talking about it for days after playing. Plan for a full day, though, for your first play. It was looooong.

Played Tales of the Arthurian Nights by @wizkids.bsky.social This is a story-driven game based off the Arabian Nights system…but WAY less random. You can actually strategize and make competent decisions in the stories. Soooo much variability and game play too!

Playing Great Western Trail: New Zealand Let’s sheer some 🐑!

I’ve been playing Mythwind by Open Owl. No spoilers, but the video teach the game recommends is fantastic, setup and put away is done in 5 minutes or less, and the game is very intriguing in a sandboxy chill sort of way. I’ve been playing the farmer, solo, to start.

Shout out to @25thcentury.games I picked up a copy of Nova Roma…a really interesting worker placement game, & learned it by playing solo. Sadly, my puppy chewed up a copy of one of the cards. 🤪 They graciously sent me a replacement for free! Top tier excellence in customer service!

We then played a 2p game of Galileo Galilei by @capstone-games.com Turns can be quite quick, but you can chain into some cool combo actions as well. The action selection system is fun & thinky, and the production is gorgeous. I lost by…a lot. 💫

Played a 3p game of Tír na nÓg by @grandgamersguild.bsky.social Really cool drafting mechanic as you try to acquire cards that will fit the scoring requirements of your tableau. Surprisingly brain burny, yet simple to learn. Very fun (despite me losing by 1pt 😂).

We spent *all day* Saturday playing Arydia: The Paths We Dare Tread by Far Off Games (the creators of Xia). A big co-op campaign with fun story beats, cool leveling up options, engaging combat and amazing production. We had such fun we just didn’t want to stop. lol

We also got to play Kahuna by @kosmosgamesuk.bsky.social A very attacky area control game where scoring happens 3 times during the game but scoring is very low. Very strategic in play but quite quick as well. This was on my wish list for a while and it was a blast to play.

My friend then taught me The Game: Face to Face by @pandasaurusgames.com I didn’t know this existed, and it’s a REALLY cool shedding game where you try to play your entire deck…or just outlast the other player. Quite tricksy and clever in how it plays. I managed to get a win too!

Played The Road to Canterbury by @eaglegryphon.bsky.social with a friend recently. They were well-versed in the Canterbury Tales, and loved the attention to detail. It’s a great game where you accuse travelers of sins, absolve those sins for $, and kill them off for more $. I got crushed. 😂

Went troll hunting for the PNW trolls by Thomas Dambo. We found 2 of the 6 in the PNW. We’ll go looking for more in the future. :)

Played Sagrada by @floodgategames.bsky.social with my wife, last night. A first play for us both. We enjoyed it a lot and she crushed me, 52-47. 😂

Played Crossbows and Catapults: Fortress War by @restorationgames.bsky.social With a single gobbo left, my Goblins wrecked house killing the Dwarves for victory.

Today we played a learning game of City of Myrkesh. Really cool deckbuilder mixed with city travel to get specific card types. The wound system is very clever as it’s primarily how you cull your deck. So taking damage *helps*.

Last game of the night was a big 5p game of Conquest of Planet Earth (with expansion) by @flyingfroggames.bsky.social My aliens did poorly, but this is always a fun “mess with your neighbors” crazy chaos good time. 👽

Next up was a 4p game of Thunder Road: Vendetta by @restorationgames.bsky.social Blue player ended up victorious with an incapacitated car crossing into a new area and eliminating a player who was at the rear. 😂 It made for a hilarious story. Always rollicking savage fun. 🏎️ 🔥

We were waiting for some folks to join us, so I busted out a quick game of Flip 7 by @theop.games A fast push your luck game of trying to score cards by not getting a card of the same value in front of you. We played to 200, and I ended up with a victory!

We then played a 4p game of Hot Shots by @firesidegames.bsky.social A co-op dice-chucking game of trying to keep a national park from burning down. We sadly lost on my turn, as I wasn’t able to keep my area from burning down around me.

We then met up with friends and played 4 games of Kites by @floodgategames.bsky.social A co-op speed game of trying to fly kites (playing all cards in a communal deck) by keeping colored sand timers running. It’s QUITE challenging and after 4 plays our best was each player having 1 card. Fun! 🪁

Played a BUNCH of games yesterday! The OG Eminent Domain (one of the first major Kickstarter games). Kind of a deckbuilder meets action selection space-conquering game. Still not many that function like this does. I went heavy combat but lost by 1pt.

Last game of the night was Things in Rings (played twice), which is Venn diagram: the game. This was pretty tough, as we started with 0 word clues…but we were able to make some educated guesses and win. We only play this co-op, and it’s always great thinky fun.

We played Sweet & Spicy last night. Essentially a cat-theme version of the game “Spicy” which is a bluffing game where you try to empty your hand. At game end, cards in hand are points against you. I won a juicy round, and rode it to victory.

Two back to back games of Flip 7. Super easy to teach and always fun and full of laughs. Even when you lose by 1pt because someone froze your score and went on to get a 7-card bonus for the win. 😆

My wife loves mean games where she can attempt to screw me over. 😂 Sweet woman that lets her evil side out in gaming (& I love it). We played Azul, to ring in the new year, & despite me having a turn where my entire broken lane filled (losing all the points I had acquired), I managed a 94-86 win.

Played Carcassonne with the wife tonight. I’ve got an old school copy from Rio Grande, which I paired with a newer expansion which adds some extra player screwing. Ended up winning 102-90.

Setup a 3p game of Inferno by Red Mojo. Guiding souls to their proper rings of hell, while condemning the living and getting them killed to add more souls for hell.

Family got me Inferno by Red Mojo games. Love me some Dante’s Inferno theme…so I’m excited to play this cool looking game! Let’s see what fun games you got!

Second game was the Korean version of Can’t Stop. Nana got her revenge and crushed both my kid and I.

First game with nana (Grandma) and my kid and I. We played Flip 7 and my kid slayed.

Played a quick game of Flip 7 by The Op, with my kid. This was their opening play. 😂 We played to 100, as we didn’t have a lot of time. I ended up winning after busting a LOT. Great game that’s fun and super easy to teach.

I also picked up a copy of City of Myrkesh by Dragon Egg Games. This is a deckbuilder (totally my jam) but does some interesting things different. In order to purchase cards you must use cards to move around the city (a board) and “hire” (buy) the types of card effects you want. Sounds cool!

The Ruunation expansion by Kolossal arrived today! Such a great game!
