A dad who's into music, bikes, math, and computers. Living in Madison, WI.
Made it to 44 with grandparents. I lost my grandmother last week. She lived to just past her 103rd birthday. I was honored to give her eulogy (the first time I've done this). Researching it through many phone calls and then writing it all out was probably the best way I could have mourned her.

I've entered my ~twice-annual obsessed with Vulfpeck phase. They're all so damn musical. This usually lasts a week or two.

Picked this up because it was ECM + French horn + cheap. It's really unique. The A side in particular is fantastic. Also love that the cover looks like a forgotten yo la Tengo album. John Clark - Faces

For the first time ever, played a "kid on bass, me on guitar" jam with my son. That was kinda magical.

Brought my kid to a kid's jazz jam session (Cool School at Cafe Coda) led by a guy who's played with Miles Davis before this weekend. Such a cool experience to see this guy teach a bunch of kids a side of music they don't necessarily see in school or regular lessons.

5yo singing Herbie Hancock's Chameleon as he's winding down in bed. It's stuck in his head because 10yo has been playing it on the piano all evening. Parenting win.

I wasn't nervous about going to Chicago until the government decided to pretend there was a problem to be solved on Chicago. The fact that I'm considering bringing passports just in case is not a symptom of a healthy nation.

Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?

Another example of the real problem being that people like Cruz live in an alternate reality bubble. Pretty much anyone accusing orgs like Wikipedia, NPR, or PBS of liberal bias is really just showing they don't live in the objective reality.

Starting to think that even if the files get released and despite the horrifying reality they expose, truth and facts in this age have been so corrupted that it won’t even matter, feel like we’ve already crossed a terrifying threshold we can never come back from.

Hiromi's Sonicwonder. She played a solo piano piece (seemingly Keith Jarrett style improvised) that was probably the most mind-blowing piano playing I've ever witnessed.
