I gave one of my players a sentient sword in our Vampire the Masquerade campaign. It speaks to him in his mind, lusting for blood & violence, & bridles at tasks that don't include slaughter. One day, the sword will make demands of him, & he'll have to decide whether to sate it, or risk saying no.

1/ Tonight one of my VtM players realized very quickly they were encountering a shovelhead mound, but he didn't want to spoil the surprise for the others. He's playing a vampire who doesn't really know much about the Sabbat, so he kept true to his character and feigned ignorance.

1/ VtM storytime Once of the nice things about GMing is getting to know your players well enough that you can set traps they willingly throw themselves into. One of my vampire players met a tortured artist, a lanky, "Timothy Chalamet type" with a mop of curls and a taste for fine wine.

I've been trying to figure out how to weave the details my players drop into the narrative of my VtM campaign. My Brujah player talked about being a sire, but didn't give too many details. So I had her childe show up, shotguns ablazing, & she had to figure out how to mend fences.

Tonight's VtM campaign started off with a heist! The coterie had to steal organs from the freshly deceased to feed their injured vampire ally who can't drink regular blood. Then one of them got caught in a magical trap sprung by a vampire hunter. (Splitting the party is a rough lesson)

Super pumped to take my son to his first Predator movie in theatre. 😎 I loved these movies as a kid and have seen all of em in theatres. The original Predator is just the perfect archetypal 80s action flick. Everything about it works. Every one liner. The violence. The CGI. The big reveal!

I know I'm late to the Cyberpunk 2077 party, but I think I enjoyed it more than Baldur's Gate 3 (and I really enjoyed BG3).

Sat down with my little guy today to help him create his first adventure for D&D. It starts in a tavern, whereby the player's friend is accidentally poisoned by some mushrooms collected for a new recipe. The party has to go to a dungeon to find the cure. Skeletons, zombies, giants, oh my!

Our very special Halloween session of Vampire featured the players tracking down a necromancer. They all had allied ghosts riding along in their heads, giving them the ability to use auspex temporarily. One combatant had her face ripped off. Sheesh! (She lived). Good times.

Press-on fangs? check. Cloak? Check. My wife helping me applying my vampire makeup? check. Cocktails in blood bags? check. *Me, accidentally rubbing my eyes and they burn so bad we gotta pause the VtM session so I can wash my eyes* check.

1/9 Let's talk Vampire the Masquerade & Sinners DM's, How far do you push your players? FD Signifier's latest video essay about Sinners has me revisiting some story and NPC choices I made in my VtM campaign that still reverberate, & given me more to think about.

Fellow GM's, protect your voice! Do warm up exercises for your voice. Shredding your vocal chords doing accents and characters, especially in a crowded, packed room full of loud people? Not worth it. I drank warm tea with honey before/during and after my last big event. Learn from my mistakes.😅

Popper was one of my favourite NPC's from Baldur's Gate 3, so of course I had him make an appearance in my game. Then a player insisted on trying to immediately murder Popper.

My nephew got his first D&D starter set for his birthday, so naturally, we went out and bought him some minis, dice and a velvet dice bag so he can roll with style.

Last night we ran a Dinner and Dragons fundraiser. We had 8 tables, drink specials like mana potions and raised money for a local charity. My table was filled with good vibes and everyone was really pumped when I was passing out posters to book me as a GM for a private game. 🤘😎🤘

Cyberpunk: "You can hack them and sneak around and stuff." Me, frustrated and impatient after dying to some bullshit, "Hack this shotgun, bitches" If the game didn't want me to blast all the bad guys with a shotgun in 2 seconds, it wouldn't have made it so easy to do that.

Tip for the GMs, writers, and worldbuilders out there; I'm comin' back with my favorite piece of advice! Make your worlds weird. Don't just copy Tolkien 1:1, don't make Star Wars Again™- make it weird. Inject your personality into the world. Embrace the weirdness, make it unique. #TTRPG

My kid and his new teacher found common ground through Star Wars. He saw his teacher had some star wars figurines on the shelf. I have a lightsaber and hot wheels Star Wars ships in my office. My boss' kid calls me "the Star Wars guy" 😎

Don't just give your D&D players cursed items, give them booby trapped items with specific conditions. I gave my kids a booby trapped flute that exploded in fireworks when played really badly (Performance 5 check). 1d4 fire damage, colour spray effects.

Gen V has done a great job adapting & updating the storyline from the original comic books. In the comics, Goldolkin is a child grooming pedo who runs a school for kids with powers (Professor X). The show goes in a different direction, & has a lot to offer. The finale was great. It's a good watch

Had an "Oh shit" moment when I accidentally stayed up until 2am doing session prep for D&D. When the writing bug hits you, you answer the call 😅

1/ Today I ran an Adventure Academy table for the kiddos with our local D&D group. They immediately attacked the quest giver, tried to light the town on fire, got arrested & banned from the town. So I had them meet Popper (from BG3) who sent them on a quest. They immediately plotted his demise.

Last night at D&D I bought a bunch of bottles of grease, and handed them out to the party. "Why are you always doing this? Who needs grease?" Then we went into Neverwinter forest, & were attacked by tree blights & needle blights! We threw the grease, and our torches, & had a bad guy bonfire. 😎

How it feels when your buddy's D&D has been cancelled for more than 6 months, and you finally get to play:

I am late to the whole @dungeonsanddads.bsky.social podcast, but just listening to Episode 42 now, and Will absolutely killed it as a son confronting intergenerational trauma and his dad's shit. What a great emotional payoff for a pod that tends to live in the silly zone.

1/ in VtM, one of my players traded favours with a Tzimisce surgeon to have his heart relocated away from his chest in the event he got staked in the heart, he wouldn't get knocked out of combat immediately. I waited 6 months, but I finally had an enemy wise enough to try & stake him in the heart.

1/ movie review time Took the kid to see Tron Ares. It's a perfectly serviceable flick. The story & writing was tighter than the sequel, & the combat/action were well done. The Ares soundtrack was classic NIN industrial metal, but I still preferred Daft Punk.
