Canada and Ukraine sign agreement to produce military drones for Ukrainian forces Canada's Ministry of National Defence and Ukraine's Defense Ministry have signed an agreement to manufacture drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Canadian soil, according to press releases posted by both ministries on Saturday, May 30. The agreement establishes a partnership between Ukraine’s Airlogix and Canadian drone manufacturer Sentinel Research and Development. Supported by both the Canadian and Ukrainian governments, this collaboration is set to combine the companies’ expertise to produce Ukrainian drones in Canada for use by the Ukrainian military, the Canadian Defence Ministry in Ottawa said. Officials described the initiative as a significant step in deepening security cooperation between Canada and Ukraine. “Through close collaboration with Ukraine and industrial partners, Canada is helping accelerate the delivery of urgently needed equipment to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces as they defend against Russian aggression,” the ministry said. Beyond the security partnership, Canadian officials highlighted that working with Ukraine in the defense sector will help Ottawa expand domestic capacity in critical technologies and deliver economic benefits to Canadian workers. Ukrainian defense officials noted that the two countries will continue to develop joint solutions to safeguard the security interests of both states, calling the teamwork a “win-win partnership” aligned with Ukraine’s defense strategy. Canada has also continued humanitarian and military support for Ukraine. On April 3, the Canadian government announced a new package totaling 51.1 million Canadian dollars (about $39 million USD), with the largest portion-$32.1 million USD-allocated for humanitarian relief through international organizations. The funds are designated for emergency medical assistance and vital necessities, such as housing, water, sanitation, and food for Ukrainians. Among the aid recipients are the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN Refugee Agency, and the World Food Programme. Since the start of the war, Ottawa has provided Kyiv with support totaling 25.5 billion Canadian dollars (roughly $18.5 billion USD), including $8.5 billion in military aid, according to a Defence Ministry statement from May 30.
