The Canadian men’s relay team making it clear to me just now they intend to stick together for the future. Perhaps there were some questions about how much longer they would go — or if all the members of the team would continue. It seems to me they all are.

For a decade these Canadian men have won international relay medals. And here in the rain in Tokyo they win silver. Extraordinary performances on demand over and over. A great team. Emphasis on team. Their chemistry is unmatched.

Canada’s Marco Arop tells me his parents are in Tokyo from Edmonton and watched his bronze medal 800m race tonight. He says he’ll be joining them later tonight to celebrate the medal and his 27th birthday. Special stuff for Marco and his parents.

Couple of dramatic relay updates: USA vs Kenya in a head-to-head 4x400m race to advance to the final. South African men get to run a timed 4x100m race to try and qualify for final. These races come in the wake of referee rulings

A birthday bronze for 🇨🇦 Marco Arop. And he’s always grateful for every experience. He’s remarkably joyful. Humble. And told me just now he didn’t think he had a 1:41.95 within him. But he found a way on his 27th birthday to win another global medal. Outstanding.

It's all happening at Japan National Stadium. Pierce LePage, reigning decathlon world champion, pulls out of the competition. He tells me seconds ago his back injury flared up again. Time for rest and recovery for him.

Not to be for Canada's Sarah Mitton in the women's shot put final. Six throws over 19 metres. She goes from second to fourth in the final round. Another tough result for her. But in our interview she was upbeat, positive and grateful.

NATIONAL RECORD The Canadian women have advance to the 4x100m relay final after breaking the national record in a time of 42.38 They made it to the final in Paris one year ago and advance to the final in Tokyo with the 5th fastest time.

JUST IN Reigning world champion 🇨🇦 Pierce LePage is pulling out of the decathlon. He completed four events here in Tokyo but is unable to continue. A extremely tough day for Canada’s decathletes Damian Warner and Pierce LePage.

Olympic champion Damian Warner says he’s devastated about having to withdraw from the world championships. He says he was feeling “so strong” leading into this trip. An MRI shows swelling and fluid in his Achilles tendon.

It’s my understanding Damian Warner will be at the stadium watching the decathlon after withdrawing due to an Achilles injury. Likely to interview him inside the venue he won that brilliant Olympic gold four years ago. One of Canada’s greatest athletes ever.

JUST IN The US appeal on the men’s 400m Rai Benjamin appeal has been accepted. He’s now been reinstated and has officially won the gold.

BREAKING Rai Benjamin has been disqualified after winning the men’s 400m hurdles. We are working to gather more details but it appears it’s because he knocked down a hurdle and it impacted another athlete. A stunning twist here.

A wonderful result for Canada’s Maeliss Trapeau. She becomes just the sixth Canadian ever to break the 1:59 barrier in the 800m Trapeau won’t advance to the final but she just posted a lifetime best time.
