One of my smoky quartz illustrated. Dug from the bitterroot mountains. The reason smoky quartz is so dark is that it gets radiated from the earth. The more dark and opaque a smoky gets, the less it’s been exposed.

With all the absolute insanity in the world, I continue to paint and contribute to the city of Boise. This was sponsored by PFCU and created for Idaho River Sports. I had a blast and met several organizers like Idaho Rivers United. .

Hire me if you want to combat climate change. Whenever I install a mural, a storm inevitably rolls in whether we are in a dry season or not.

One of my favorite minerals are the Bunkerhill Pyromorphites. Most pyromorphites range from olive to granny smith apple green, but the Jersey lvl 9 vein of pyromorphites are bright orange due to trace amounts of arsenic mixed in with these lead chlorophosphate crystals.

Every artist I know is really struggling right now. Financially, emotionally, their confidence, in general. If you like an artist's work, support them any way you can. Buying their stuff or subscribing to their Patreon is great, but words of encouragement are also incredibly helpful.

Three years ago, I stood outside three hours in frigid conditions for the gift of a 30-second view of this magnificent bird. The genus of the Varied Thrush, Ixoreus, comes from the Greek "ixos," or mistletoe.

Here’s some cool new hematite amethyst material coming out of a brand new spot in NA. The geodes themselves are a couple hundred pounds and are lined with lemon yellow agate and are incased in limestone. They are from a very remote corner of main land America, one that has few visitors.

One of the illustrations created for an interpretive panel for the USFS. (I did a bunch of native bush florals as well) This was commissioned to show the non native Spruce root system compared to the native Larch's system at a camp ground where several old growth spruces were felled.

I miss doing en plein air painting so much but I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it anymore. These were some of my last sketchbook paintings that I’ve done circa 2018 or so at the boise zoo.

In Japan, there is a lizard with a beautiful blue tail named “Nihon-tokage” (Japanese Lizard). I see them in my garden, and when I see them, I feel very lucky.

(1 of 2) illustrated plate of smoky quartz specimens from Idaho in my collection. I dug a couple of these myself and the rest were bought from independent rockhounds. These are all from the Sawtooth Batholith and dug mostly in the Trinities.

With the weather changing, it's been a blast on reflecting on all of the rockhounding I've done this summer. This is a quartz location on a private claim out in the Owyhees (Idaho and Oregon Border). I hauled out about a 55 liter bag full of this stuff!

Forgot to post my Albertson's project that my team and I completed this past spring (April 8th). I felt honored to contribute to the company's Recipe for Change and paint my favorite Boise River Bird. As always, I rely on my team to bring the vision of the mural to life. They're so fantastic!

The Owyhees are experiencing above 150% the normal precipitation that they normally get so for the month of January so instead of doing en plein air, I am staying in my studio doing a study of a hot spring on the Owyhee River.
