Am I the only one seeing more ECRs/mid career researchers applying for awards, honours, memberships with an exorbitant amount of papers in the past 2-3 years? Like 40-50 pubs/year? CV padded with reviews, systematic reviews, low N clinical papers, or "hypothesis generating" papers.

Here's the only thing I see about Tri-Agency funding.

A lot of folks are going to express strong support for Indigenous leaders in Alberta who are pushing back hard on talk of separation. This can't just be because it's politically useful. Let's also address the issues with treaties and talk seriously about #LandBack.

Obviously I support calls to "Stand With Science", but I can't help noting that scientists as a group almost never stand with anyone else. It's always "science can't be political" or "we must remain neutral". It's deafening silence from academics except when funding is at risk.

Desk rejections are literally just the opinion of one (maybe 2-3 at most) editor who probably knows little about your work or even your research domain. At fancy journals they are basically pattern-matching for whatever seems hype at the moment plus prestige signals. Don't take it personally.
