QUICK UPDATE: more good news. Our male Osprey from our second nest '374' has arrived back safely & is now paired back with 1H1. We just need 5H3 to return now & try to pair with a wandering/visiting female. Here's keeping everything crossed for a successful 2026 season

The Osprey Mark photographed this afternoon then went and settled on the nest platform in Middlebere at RSPB Arne for several hours eating the fish, until she then went to roost just before darkness. Here she is on our monitoring camera

5H1 was our first ever Osprey chick to fledge from Poole Harbour back in 2022. The first in Southern England for c180 years! She herself now breeds up in the East Midlands & briefly visited the Manton Bay nest at Rutland y’day. She is truly a historic & important bird.

Last night seemed like optimum conditions for some of our winter migrants to start heading home. About an hour after set there was quite an intense Redwing passage for a couple of hours until about 21:30 when the low cloud cover cleared and birds started gaining height

The now annual Forster’s Tern has reappeared in the harbour this evening, several weeks earlier than previous years. More typically it’s been appearing in late March. Wonder how long it will hang around??

Had no design work in for 3 months now, I'm trying to get back to doing what I love. It takes less than 5 seconds to share/like something. Big up your mates, help them out, even if you don't need anything done. Support them when you can. You never know who might see it. Link in bio above. Cheers ✊

Incredible ringing recovery this AM by Stour Ringing Group of a Kestrel caught near Arne which was carrying a Dutch ring and a sat-tag. Well done for getting the data so quickly. Amazing movement for a bird that typically isn’t considered to move large distances.

Hi all, many thanks for the messages over the weekend regarding our website. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, it seems like we won’t be able to get it sorted until Monday. Please bear with us and we should have it back up and running again soon. Cheers: The BoPH team.

Incredible news! In 2022 The first chick to fledge for 180 years in the South of England was female ‘5H1’. Last year she raised 3 of her own chicks near Rutland including 8R3, which our team ringed. 8R3 was just seen in the Gambia by Fansu Bojang. Great to see 3rd generation Ospreys now thriving!

We’ve been out prepping and servicing various Osprey nests around the harbour (more on that later) but massive thanks to the RSPB Arne team who allowed us to install a camera on a favoured perch for migrant Ospreys so we can read ring numbers. Raven said hello today!
