New findings call into question one of the core assumptions about teeth. Adult male spotted ratfish have rows of teeth on top of their heads, in addition to those in their jaws. They use these teeth to grip females while mating.

Our drone team recently returned from a survey trip where they captured this large sea lion haul out on San Carlos Beach; a popular dive spot in Monterey. The beach was the scene of a similar large haul out at the same time last year.

🌿🤍💚 Sat, May 31 Days & grays (Sounders) come & go so quickly, or so it feels. Most grays have left Puget Sound to continue their migration north, some remain. Orcas are being reported this morning, hopefully the humpback(s) stayed around too. 📸 Gray whale on May 10th by Janine Harles.
