I have 10 days to respond to the fraud disputes and I'm weighing if it's going to cost me more to divert my time to researching and reading hundreds of pages of documents to try to learn how to counter in a situation specifically like mine, or to cut my losses, move on, and just not do this again.

I wanted to spend my week finishing some art, but instead I’m going to spend it trying to learn how to counter wrongly disputed credit card charges to hopefully keep my Stripe account from being closed which would effectively end my ability to ever crowdfund my art again so that’s cool.

The Chimney Rock Trail offers incredible views for a relatively easy hike. Getting the iconic landscape to fit onto a vertical card, however, was a strenuous feat. I depicted it from the view of the hiker starting out from the trailhead, greeted by a patch of Marin checker lilies.

If you know me you know I love Art Deco, so illustrating the KPH Station in a dreamy landscape was a delight. Everything from the compositions of flowing swirls of colors framing the elements to little details like the reflected red moon felt like pure indulgence.

I had planned to paint the cards in gouache and I only got 4 cards in before changing my mind: it was too slow, I wasn't happy with my skills, and the scanner wasn't producing a consistent color match—which was important for the myriorama to work! Here's a comparison between digital and gouache:

Now that the deck is out and truly real, I wanted to take the opportunity to share some of the inspiration behind the artwork. At a vista point for Drake's Estero, I watched a gorgeous Great Egret take off from the water and I knew it had to be the highlight of the first card I painted.

Last night I dreamt I was a nanny again. The children’s pet cat was missing its body, I was searching everywhere and finally found it under the bed, wedged into the bed frame, trapped beneath the mattress and when I set it free it quickly scrabbled away on flaccid legs to rejoin the head.
