I have some unfortunate news to share. I think I'm going to mention that I'm 6'3 in my Silksong review due to the review's hook. I hate telling people that I'm 6'3. I despise telling people that I'm 6'3 in fact. But I think it's important to be brave sometimes and put yourself out there.

Not far into the Trails demo, but happy to see that they continue to refine the battle system. The action elements feel significantly better than Daybreak. I think they do a better job introducing you to the MANY systems in and outside of battle as well.

Idyllic JRPG intros have their flaws. But there's a magic and nostalgia attached to them that almost no other genre can match for me. It's easy to get whisked away into their peaceful and pleasant worlds. And I'm simultaneously transported to being a 13 year old again as well.

Holy shit... Holy shit... That Trails opening hype cutscene was FUCKING ELECTRIC. I'm ready for adventure now damn it!!!

Game #32 of 2025 completed: Hollow Knight: Silksong. My first ever soulslike completion. I can't believe it. And with no health upgrades (not on purpose lol). There's a reason it's my first. It's an unbelievably well crafted game.

I am at the final boss in Silksong apparently. I didn't manage to get one health upgrade before getting here lmao.

Just updated my various 2025 top 10s after finishing The Drifter. It kicked several games off my lists. Leaving my lists... -Avowed for best story -Eriksholm for best graphics/art direction -Monster Train 2 for best indie -Andy Serkis for best performance -Bionic Bay for best puzzles.

Game #31 of 2025 completed: The Drifter A thrill ride of a "point and click" narrative game. Plot never gets dull. Shockingly cinematic and top-notch voice acting. Only held back by a lot of back and forth puzzle solving. Highly recommend!

This game was not on my radar at all. I don't care about Deep Rock Galactic. And Vampire Survivors was cool but I've had no desire to return to that formula. But man. I was hooked on this within 5 minutes last night. It adds some very cool things to the Vampire Survivors formula

Also, every game should have a codex and story so far thing in their menu. I feel like we are in an era where there is more game hopping than ever before, thanks to quick resume + increased digital games that make it easy to swap games. A lot of devs assume their game is all you will be playing

I think about this question way too much these days. Much like music, I think we've reached a point where indie is a "style" more than anything about publishers. BG3 is technically more indie than Dave the Diver... but is it? I think the easiest way to do this would be to say under $40 = indie

Started The Drifter last night. The early plot pacing is incredible. Way more tense than I'd usually expect from a point and click adjacent type game. Love the visuals and voice acting too. This has a lot of promise 👀

Game #30 of 2025 completed: Is This Seat Taken? A very cute puzzler. It has an awesome concept and is fun in short bursts but not much more. Could have used a few more visual indicators and level variety. Still not bad at all though.

My #1 and #2 for Best Music this year feel pretty locked in. The more I play Silksong, the more it feels like it's grabbing #3. Just top tier atmosphere building. It's so good.

Just went from Borderlands 4 to Silksong. It is very weird to go from a FPS with a double jump to a 2D platformer/search action game where I do not currently have a double jump (Im assuming its coming) Is... game hopping bad???

I always appreciate reviews like this. It takes bravery to give an acclaimed game a score like this. Especially a souls-y game. Honestly, there's not much I disagree with here overall. I just think the core mechanics are good enough to compensate for the annoyances.
