I usually hate fishing minigames. But Crimson Desert actually has pretty cool fishing. It's one area where the game's overly complicated controls pay off. Its not almost totally mindless the way many are. Best one since Infinite Wealth

Fascinating. Feel like they will be amazing at building a world people can get lost in. I'd mostly be skeptical on how they would handle combat. Their current system just doesn't fit the large scale LotR battles.

I have googled several othet Crimson Desert things, so that's part of it. But still funny that something as simple as "take in" would generate this search result. The reviewers playing this game before guides and multiple QoL elements are heroes. It's so bad at explaining its own mechanics.

Screw it, it's the month of pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Enjoy(?) some 1,200 words (over 6,000 characters; 20+ Bsky comments worth!) of barely-edited mind-dump. Complete with probably too many parantheticals, comma splices, and I'm sure a run-on sentence or two.

Food is another example of "Crimson Desert is best when viewed as a comedy". The cooking has its upsides but is overall pretty annoying thanks to a cutscene that is skippable but you still kinda have to sit through. But the food is so horrendous looking that it always gets a chuckle out of me.

If you liked Project Hail Mary... It's a slower burn and has a very different lead character, but you should consider playing Harold Halibut. It has a few similar themes and touches on a few of the same questions near the end. Amazing art style too. I really loved it!

The Crimson Desert patch today fixed two of my biggest issues with movement in the game. Sprinting only requires one button press Flying doesn't immediately sap your stamina. No idea why it wasn't like this from day 1. But thats progress!

This is going to sound like a backhanded compliment. But Crimson Desert's combat improves a lot when you start unlocking new moves and then can embrace it as a comedy instead of as something serious. The core sword stuff is pretty mediocre imo But RKOs, suplexes, and lariats make it hilarious

I legitimately love how unnecessarily epic Crimson Desert's load screen is.

Took my daughter to dance today. A dance mom was getting into a slightly heated confrontation with the owner. Wanted to know what her daughter was "lacking" so she could be showcased more. I thought the basketball dads I grew up with were intense. That shit was scary 💀

Any studio closure is a bummer. But it's especially awful when it's a studio that did great work and seemed to have decent enough sales success. Genuinely demoralizing stuff.

I've seen people push back on criticism of Crimson Desert's terrible storytelling, as there are many other beloved open world games with weak stories (BotW, etc). My one pushback to that is that CD invests a whole lot of time and effort into its storytelling. Way more than most with bad stories

Bumping this up by saying that game #8 of 2026 completed is Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse. Yes. It's my current #1, against all odds. This is visual novel gold. And one plot twist is truly astounding. Yet it ties EVERYTHING together. Still in absolute awe they pulled that off.

When people say nice things about my articles on here, it is much appreciated. But I'm also inherently less likely to take compliments at face value from people I consider friends. Friends are supposed to be nice to you! So it always feels amazing when a rando takes the time to comment on the blog.

To me, Pikmin 4 is the most underrated Nintendo game of the Switch era. It was my first Pikmin game (thanks to how much I loved Tinykin). It's an absolute UNIT

Black Desert's peak player count on Steam was around 60k. Crimson Desert's is almost 250k. Im sure a Black Desert sequel would have done fine enough. But it got me thinking. Imagine the numbers Bungie would have gotten with a 1p focused game.

I was rapid firing my Crimson Desert takes last night because I was genuinely stunned at how bad it was. I can recognize when a game has quality but isn't for me (Pokopia). But I find CD to be genuinely offensive so far I will hold off on posting takes from here until chapter 3. I want to be fair

I don't think the first 2 hours could have gone worse. The combat feels terrible (pre-patch on Xbox) The control scheme is brain dead. The small text is really fucking annoying. Visuals are pretty glitchy on XSX. Story and characters... so bad. But I'm committed to hitting at least 15 hours!

I probably shouldn't be shocked that a lot of text in Crimson Desert requires me to lean forward like I'm in a boss fight to read it (I dont have perfect vision even with glasses). Such a brutal flaw in menu heavy games like this. Was a huge problem for me in KCD2 last year.

I bought the Xbox version of Crimson Desert. I was shocked at how bad the combat feels after the much hyped patch. It's incredibly unresponsive. Feels terrible. Turns out, it's not live on Xbox for a few more days. Bummer. But at least ill see the before and after for myself I suppose.

The first thing Crimson Desert does is have you adjust the brightness balance in the game. However, it's doesn't give you any direction on where the brightness should be. You just adjust it on vibes. Not a huge deal, but one of those "a sign of things to come" moments for sure 😂

Crimson Desert has been purchased. I've already accepted that I'm either going to love it or hate it with no in between. My body is ready.

Triple i has consistently been one of my favorite showcases the past few years. Tightly paced, and they tend to get some of the biggest indie titles out there. It's a lot of fun. Highly recommend tuning in!
