Just found out that, before the Civil War, it was more common to refer to the U.S. as a plural, "The United States are..." but gradually, after the Civil War, we switched to referring to the U.S. in the singular, which is kinda grammatically incorrect, but better reflects the political reality.

This makes absolutely no sense.

I don't understand how DOGE is able to just cancel these contracts. Doesn't the government have an obligation as part of the contract? Or is it like a house sale where if you are under contract you are only out your earnest money if the sale doesn't happen?
