I thought the movie, The Prince of Tides, was better than the book. Usually I think books are better. #CatChatBookClub

I also think books are often better than the movies. One exception for me was The Devil Wears Prada. I saw the movie first and thought the book would be even better. Ended up being disappointed and preferring the movie. Meryl Streep lifts up anything she is in. #CatChatBookClub

For the #CatChatBookClub “Books which became MOVIES” theme, Mum chose to read “Chocolat” by Joanne Harris, which she enjoyed just as much as a bar of 🍫 itself! 😹 The story was lovely & moving, the characters super. Magical. Good messages to take away from it. (1 of 3…. cont)

Mum’s third read, this month, was “Orbital” by Samantha Harvey. It fit the “Blast from the Past” theme as the winner of the Booker Prize last year & was recommended at past #CatChatBookClub tweetups! A beautiful, reflective, poetic & philosophic novel. Mum really loved it.

Watched the TV series, Silo, and now reading 2 of the books, Wool and Shift, by Hugh Howey. I don’t normally read science fiction but this series has grabbed my attention. #CatChatBookClub

I enjoyed reading The Gatsby Gambit. Same characters as Fitzgerald’s book including Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Nick but has addition of Gatsby’s little sister. There’s a murder and she has to figure out who done it. Fun to revisit West Egg. #CatChatBookClub

Tom Robbins died recently. Re-reading the 1st book of his I ever read. I first read it in like 8th grade & was then enthralled with 2nd person narration / POV for YEARS. #catchatbookclub

I attended one of Dr Walker’s lectures. He is brilliant. Flower & I are loving his audiobook. This is where we heard the fun shark & bird facts. #catchatbookclub

We read another Cat in the Stacks book. Absolutely loving this series. Diesel the cat is awesome. #catchatbookclub

Mum’s second read of the month was “The Magickal Summer of Evie Edelman” (for village book club) which also fits our #CatChatBookClub ‘Blast from the Past’ theme, as it was set in 1982. (Book not published until 5 June.) Mum found it an “okay” read but wasn’t really gripped.

Mum absolutely loves the Roy Grace books by Peter James, having discovered the series part way through. She’d never read the books prior to that, so thanks to the "Blast from the Past" #CatChatBookClub theme, she picked up the very first Roy Grace book ... “Dead Simple" 👍

While more classic stuff. The Warden was Trollope at his best. Laughing at everybody . Swallows - a tragic story set between the wars seen through the eyes of two young boys and their dad. Beautifully written. #CatChatBookClub #Hedgewatch

Also this month, Mum read “What Doesn’t Kill Us” a fiction book by Ajay Close, set in Leeds at the time of the Yorkshire Ripper. It wasn’t an easy book to read & she had mixed feelings about it. Changing SOME (but not all) of the true crime details was a bit odd #CatChatBookClub

Mum’s choice of book with an intriguing title was “Miss Benson’s Beetle” by Rachel Joyce, who also wrote the Harold Fry books. Mum really loved “Miss Benson’s Beetle” 🪲 & shared her notes here #CatChatBookClub The story was unusual and the characters were so well drawn 🥰
