These five from the TMT set are strange. Recently WotC has included a landcycler cycle at Common in most sets. Making that cycle using secondary characters for fans sounds fine. But they're terrible legendaries. You can't cycle from the command zone. Who would build with these in Commander/Brawl?

The flavor text is derivative of earlier, better ones (Muscle, Sinew, etc) and the card name is abysmal. But this art is really really well done. The use of shadow and the pinpricks for eyes and the orangie-pink tentacles hitting the light are all exceptional. Not for a Sliver, but some other beast.

An evocative bit of world building for the Onslaught setting of Otaria, this art is a masterpiece from Mark Zug. It looks amazing on the 2.5" x 3.5" card or on a wall in a frame.

In the summer of '93 I pulled a rock out of a lake in Michigan and painted The Maxx on it. I've used it as a doorstop for 30 years. Sam Kieth's creation has been starring at me everyday.

I was first introduced to Sam Kieth via cool covers of Batman and Wolverine (and his chapter of the 1989 Secret Origins Special about the Penguin). The Maxx came out during 7th grade and tickled my artistic senses all thru high school. His pages were revelatory. Tight boxes of chaos. R.I.P. Sam.
