Less than 3 months ago, Vox Media was celebrating Eater for having nabbed 6 nominations at the James Beard Media Awards! Ashok Selvam received the 2025 Local Voice Award for his work at Eater Chicago. He was laid off today.

Vox Media has announced yet another round of layoffs at Eater, this time coming as the publication is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We stand in solidarity with our @voxmediaunion.bsky.social colleagues impacted by these devastating cuts.

Since last March, @nymagunion.bsky.social has been negotiating a new contract. But Vox Media has refused to meet us halfway on basic issues including giving us meaningful wage increases, controlling health care costs, and offering reasonable protections around AI in our workplace.
