lrp: thinking abt how, in fandom, when we trans men depict characters who are cis men as transfemme, we very often just draw them as-is but slap on a dress or heavy makeup- but when we "gender-swap" and make the characters cis women instead, we make them SUPER feminine. why the harsh divide?

Signifiers of transfemininity often don't serve us, especially transsexual women who want to be perceived simply as "a woman." They're not for us, not in relationship with how we perceive ourselves or want others to perceive us. They are to separate us from "a woman". They are "a woman + signifier."

I know it often comes from a good place, from wanting to celebrate non-normative gender and different types of bodies etc., but consider that if your way of depicting trans women excludes ALL cis women, you may be comforting the "we can always tell" crowd more than validating transfemmes.
