We currently have two open positions, one for a PhD candidate (3 years) and one for a postdoc (4 years), both 13 TV-L and both revolving mainly around synchrotron-related techniques on spin-crossover molecules (PhD) or magnetic hybrid systems. HMU if you always wanted to be judged by a mean yeen.

We're trying to fill a vacant PhD position and I'm going to sit in on the interviews tomorrow, in the hope of fending off potentially catastrophic candidates... I'll probably ask whether they know what a vacuum pump is, because most of them lack UHV experience. :(

My colleague borrowed a helium leak detector from another group. Then managed to accidentally tip over the cart, sending it crashing to the floor. Oh boy. Like a wounded animal, it started dripping, but it's pump oil rather than blood...

Today on yeen's glovebox shenanigans: I found one more original 1990s hose, a long one that connects the interior to the pressure sensor, so it's kinda critical, though operating at low pressure. Judging by its appearance compared to a former interior hose, I think it has seen a bit too much sun...

Still testing negative. Driving through torrential rain, past crashes and seas of blue lights, leaving supplies in front of Taki's door, then standing on a closed Autobahn for a bit, and still being on time, because I get up at silly o'clock in the morning. Everything is kinda shit right now.

In addition to me being angry at everything, Taki felt quite ill this morning, and tested positive for Covid. v.v I left work right away and so far, tests are still negative... Spending the night at my mother's place in the hope that I may have gotten away with it. Not the nicest situation. :(

My colleague, all smiles, asked me how my vacation was. And I went, "Has nobody noticed that the glovebox somehow failed and completely ran out of argon?" I could hear the valve clicking every two seconds through the closed lab door, trying to refill itself with gas. Gnnnn...
