The guys in Fulcrum records were always very patient with a 14 year old me taking tapes in of stuff I'd taped off pirate radio. They'd put it on and almost always go and grab a 12" for me. An amazing selection for such a tiny shop. I still miss that place.

Going through the archive stuff has been a lovely reminder of that period of my life when I had the time to work through *22* mixes of a track before I was happy with it. I can confidently assure you that none of the new stuff has had anything like this level of quality control.

Anyone else into buying a bit of non-uk music when they're abroad? I've been to France and picked up an album by a singer called Vitaa and the third in MC Solaar's triptyque from last year (I've got the first two already which were out last summer). Both excellent.

Absolutely no idea if this was a thing in Ibiza in 1990 as I was only 12, but when I heard this on pirate radio, it was the first time I'd ever actually heard the song and I was quite pleased when I saw it in a record shop a few weeks later. Never come across it anywhere else.

I'm in a Radiohead kind of mood now. This album is nowhere near as immediate and took me a little while. Well worth persevering with though.

It's difficult to remember just how different this sounded when it came out, but even so, it's such a good album and rewards being returned to.
