I guess random backyard supercell season really does not ever end

A storm with its tornado, parading through canyons in Texas, shows off the whole anatomy of a supercell. Nothing I wouldn't give to have had a road in from the northeast on this one, but nope.

In the year of everything awesome in storm chasing world, the monsoon has been nonexistent. So I'll take whatever heavily cropped, slightly overexposed bolts I can get 😀

Out of the small handful of storms I have actually chased in 2025, the majority of them have been terrible. And yet several of them, including this one, keep breaking my windshield anyway. You're supposed to be good if you want the right to do that, storm.

In areas hit by Texas floods, officials were sent over $5 million in federal ARPA funds in 2021. They didn't want to spend it on flood warning systems due to their disdain for Biden - and didn't send it BACK because it might go to a blue state, and "values that we in Kerr county don't agree with."

Replacing the NAM and HREF with the RRFS in early 2026 is a really bad idea IMHO. The RRFS does not handle low-level cold air masses nearly as well as the NAM and a couple other HREF members, although they can be too aggressive with low-level cold air.

This, somehow, is the "other" thing that day two years ago. I saw that the bigger tornado earlier detached and stayed west of the parent storm for much of its life, so I stayed west of the storm from then on and it paid off with the dumbest sunset I will ever see. 6.23.2023 - Johnson, Kansas

It's been two years since a tornado took three lives in Perryton, Texas along a zippering dryline. I've never posted my video of that tornado. This one is a different tornado - it occurred a half hour or so later south of town and did no damage. 6.15.2023 - Perryton, Texas

One of my favorite tornado timelapses is this one, the entire life cycle of last summer's Mound City, South Dakota long lived tornado. So much fun to watch a forecast verify so spectacularly.

When you see a violent tornado you know it. No question in your mind. The two strongest tornadoes of the third largest tornado outbreak in recent times came from this storm and, with a high risk forecasted and advanced warnings from the National Weather Service, neither killed anyone.

Some chasers yell and scream and go nuts. I don't react that way. But I do tell tornadoes what to do. Sometimes they even listen to me.

The Matador storm was a great look at the full process of a tornado's life cycle from start to finish. This is right in the middle of its life as it begins to signal it will grow larger. The tornado with big upward motion as RFD rain begins enveloping the circulation is always ominous.

A largely unimpactful tornado a week ago, my first and so far only close up one this year and it was so needed. Takes a lot of pressure off. Now to just be patient and let late May and June bring the goods like they tend to do.

An anticyclonic tornado spins up near Silverton, Texas, late last week on the first of a several day stretch of severe weather. Anticyclonic tornadoes spin "backwards" relative to cyclonic tornadoes and are fairly uncommon.
