The only "AI literacy" we need to teach kids is that it's really super easy to just not use it and they won't be missing out on anything whatsoever and then if somebody wants them to use it it's totally fine to just be, like, "nah, I'm good. Thanks."

Once again: there is no *ethical* use of AI. Universities "exploring ethical uses" are cashing in and trying to grab money to survive in the face of government shortfalls. You cannot "ethically" use a machine that steals art, energy, water, and land. Using AI to "make art" is exploitation and theft.

I am rereading Never Let Me Go for work reasons and I am finding it less satisfying than I did when I first read it years and years ago. There are some huge plot holes??? Also, go read The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey.

I saw a something recently that said members of fandoms no longer exist as fans but believe they are stakeholders. They believe that their opinions and feelings have weight and influence. So they engage performances like they’re directing or a part of the production. It’s wild.

The ease with which writers, artists and venues have been silenced reflects the precarity of creative work in this country, and the government's utter disregard for culture and the arts. This has gone on for so long we barely remember an alternative state of affairs. We can barely imagine it.

The AI rollout is an incredible test case for the power of capital to overrule everything in its way. An overwhelmingly stupid, obscenely polluting, and wildly dangerous set of technologies are being brute-forced into every part of our lives because money says so.

I am genuinely sick to death of pretending this is somehow normal or expected. If you use LLMs to do any part of your writing, thinking or synopses (let alone art) you should be embarrassed and out of work.

Remember when the metaverse was sold to higher ed as an essential part of the future of learning (especially online)? And how colleges and universities should go all-in on the metaverse so they could be "pioneers" of this new technology? There's a lesson here for those who choose to learn it.
