Many of the rationales for my AI course policy appeal to students' self interest (say no for your own sake). But I also stress (& they find it eye-opening) that inputting anyone else's work into a chatbot is unethical because it "turns over" that work w/out consent to for-profit tech companies...

I don't know anyone who is worried that hantavirus is turning into the next COVID as a global pandemic. The concern is that clearly nothing has been learned from COVID. It's the same calm-mongering, the same arrogant claims, the same slapdash mitigations, the same minimizers who got COVID so wrong.

There is a big difference between "people who are 'scared' of AI and don't want to learn new things" and "people who have deep moral objections to AI's underpinnings, impacts, and the systems of power behind it." It's wild to me that institutions pushing AI adoption don't seem to understand this.
