New echidna paper There are 5 subspecies of short-beaked echidnas. They look different but some of the differences between them, like reproductive behaviour, are so dramatic that I thought they may be different species. But previous genetic studies suggested that the subspecies were not real.

An American Ichthyologist’s Guide to Swedish birds The pigeons here are eatin’ size Compare chonker of a Common Wood Dove (Columba palumbus) on the left to the regular ol’ Rock Pigeon (C.livia) on right 🕊️ I was surprised these things could fly. It looks like a pigeon that eats other pigeons.

No need to seed #meadows!!! Sayer's Old Meadow was an arable field bathed in chemicals until 2005. It was abandoned for 5 years & since then it has been mowed annually. No seeds/plants have ever been introduced to it. It is very species-rich. Ecological restoration is often best when we do less!!!
