Just resuming a project I started ten years ago. Hopefully there will be progress in the next few months…

Red Dwarf always ahead of the curve.

I was at my son’s doing some essential DIY for him (supposed to be putting up shelves). I looked to see these on the picture ledger - figures I did more than 50 years ago! French Imperial Guard. The Lancer is a Stadden “Standish” metal kit. The Chasseur is a Historex kit.

So yesterday me and The Lads (13 & 15) potted along to the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington to the museum’s first model show. Purchased were made…tanks: Panther and T34, and work building them started when we got home…

Off to Elvington shortly with The Lads to the YAM model show. The York modellers are set up ready (and have been since early this morning)

We had an hour of do on the archery field this morning and my lovely lady was on fire: not only every arrow in the gold, every one’s within the 10 ring within the gold!

Great work with a challenging kit! (I need to get my unmade kits out of the loft to do…)

And how do I paint my Epic scale figures? Just like painting any other scale: very slowly!

Job done, straight out of the box, using glue and paint from the box. An impulse buy from Lidl (food store) and I think it’s the first Spitfire I’ve built since the Frog MkXIV and Flying Bomb was first issued. I might do a bit of extra fettlin’ over the next couple of days.

So, the holiday build is not coming on too badly. The carpet monster has been tamed (and parts recovered), paints are a frustration (but a better finish than I expected…with perseverance) and the fit was tight with some bits. The only “extra” is a roll of decorators masking tape to mask the canopy.

So, during Lockdown The Lads (Grandsons) and did Zoom modelling sessions. This one was with DAS modelling clay and a wooden mannequin. Today, young Benj found my effort and decided to paint it. The figure is intended to be a Gerry Anderson villain.

This is the best biography that reflects my early life. Except I didn't have a German mate and I then didn't pursue wargame figure manufacturers for their original moulds (although I knew quite a few). I recommend!

A revaluation: and very convenient for me - just 15 mins down the road. Although it’s not such a place to browse. You need to know what you want.

Luckily, I have with me the basic set of Scalecolor Artists Acrylics: white, black, red, blue, yellow and a brown. Plus a few brushes. So I’ll be doing old school painting - mixing my colours! 3/3

I had high hopes as I have used the AK Realcolor Markers which have much better colour density. The colour range is also better but the drawback is a thicker paint tip. The Playmarker tips are finer ( but not fine enough) 2/2

So whilst away on jollies I planned to do some painting having brought the AK Playmarker painting pens with me to try. Disappointed! I think the coverage is poor (although one dry it doesn’t look too bad) and it’s difficult to control the flow of paint to the pen tip. 1/3

Away for a few days on jollies and an opportunity for a bit of modelling. I’m not keen on standard bearers carry around telegraph poles, so first job is to replace flag staffs with new, ever so slightly longer, brass ones…

Can also be applied to models, kits, paints, tools...
