I will try to be perfectly clear. When political violence spirals it reaches the most vulnerable the fastest. No I will not celebrate political violence in any form. That is completely different than celebrating an abhorrent man’s life because of the way he died.

There is a political party that promotes and defends the actions of Kyle Rittenhouse. There is a media perspective in good standing that gave Vance Boelter a credulous interview where he claimed self defense. Current leadership is not equipped to handle this.

Take it from some who teaches about drone strikes, “I shed no tear for that guy” and “this is bad, it shouldn’t have happened” can be normal reactions to have simultaneously. Opposition to political violence isn’t about personal sympathy for an individual target per se, it’s about society.

Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence. Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets. Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe. It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

Like many Never Trumpers and other people with a public profile, I have been on the receiving end of death threats for years just for speaking my mind. No one in America should risk being killed for exercising their right to speak, no matter how despicable you think their views might be.
