one distinction playing difficult games has made me think about a lot is that learning based challenge is not at all the same thing as adversity, but a lot of developers are not very savvy about the distinction.

Oh who am I kidding, Bloodborne II would be great and FFVIIR3 is inevitable and I want it, but let’s be real, The Lightning Collection: Final Fantasy XIII Remastered is what I really want out of every event.

Game 9 of the year complete. Very little I can say but what an absolutely astonishing game from start to finish. Stunning to play, look at and with an awesome soundtrack. Clair Obscur: Expedtion 33 is just a wonder.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 4.4 million copies worldwide. Congrats to its phenomenal success and I can't wait for more people to experience it. It is rumored that "Clair Obscur" is meant to be the name of the series that will span more sequels. My 2025 GOTY!

Something I've thought about with modern gaming (or just gaming as an adult maybe) is how little games seem to be "savored" like when we were kids. Back then getting a new game didn't happen often, so I played what I had repeatedly. I felt more connected with my games then. They were "my" games.

In the four years I've been at IGN I've watched its staff shrink and shrink, all while those who remain are asked to do more and more. I see colleagues skip lunch, stay late day after day, and burn out. IGN staff are passionate and love their work. But we can't keep letting that be exploited.

My stance on genAI

I had to make a second category because Discord only allows 50 channels per category. Rebuilding DnD5E leveling is going well but also I’m probably out of my mind.

Call me old fashioned but I was under the impression that in order to make money as a company that sells a product you have to have a product to sell.

I did not think I’d really get any response to this whatsoever. Instead, 2 people joined before the next time I logged in, and since then it’s grown to 6 with me and 3 others in a cross world linkshell, essentially a server-agnostic group chat. #ffxiv

Even if you are not a fan of MMORPGs, I still cannot recommend Final Fantasy XIV enough. I had zero interest in MMO’s and I actively avoided XIV for years for that very reason. Joke was on me and everyone else who overlooked it for that reason. Easily the best game ever made.

Don’t mind me, just ripping apart DND5E leveling to rebuild character progression from scratch. For my first time as a DM. 🙃
