I know historical reenactment is a rather small community but it's surprising I can probably count on my fingers the amount of medieval Pictish reenactors I've heard of.

So between our Birlinn volumes King in the North and Picts: Scourge of Rome, Rulers of the North, there has been almost 12,000 books sold to date! Not bad for the old Picts!

This beautiful Pictish ring is based on a gilt silver bezel found by a detectorist near Montrose. Its similarities to the Burghead ring are very self evident and being made from precious metal will complete your high status Pictish reenactment kit with a touch of regality.

The view from Castle Law, where the Dumyat hill fort once stood, I must say the Maeatae/Miathi really picked the best place for a commanding view of their lands. Awfully long trek to get there though.

It's also one of the few Pictish artworks that shows combat and one of only two(?) early medieval depictions of a two handed spear being used with a shield. The Picts really came in clutch with this one.

💥🛒 NEW in our brilliant wee Viking Age museum shop: Asgard's Govan Rider pendant! You may recognise the horse and rider from the Govan Sarcophagus, which we think dates to the late 9th century and contained the relics of St Constantine, a Pictish king killed by Vikings.

Artemis II has finally made into space. I can only imagine how nerve racking it must have been for those engineers in the run up to launch. The Pictish mirror symbol is carved into stones across Scotland. There are many theories as to why but here I will focus on just maiking it shiny like a real mirror. Here I am sandcasting a pendant based on the symbol in recycled sterling silver.

For reasons that can only be described as divine intervention I will now drop all my current projects and shift entirely to the armies of continental europe. No idea why I spent all this time working on "Picts" from some island that probably doesn't exist.
