Artemis II has finally made into space. I can only imagine how nerve racking it must have been for those engineers in the run up to launch. The Pictish mirror symbol is carved into stones across Scotland. There are many theories as to why but here I will focus on just maiking it shiny like a real mirror. Here I am sandcasting a pendant based on the symbol in recycled sterling silver.

Sueno's Stone is a 6.5 metre tall 9th-10th century #Pictish stone near Forres, annoyingly there's a hell of a lot of different historical events that the stone could be representing. The stone gets its name from Sweyn Forkbeard, whos association to the stone is highlt doubted. #StandingStoneSunday

I saw #HillfortsWednesday and was reminded of the time me and my dad went up to Finavon hill and spent a good half hour trying to find the hillfort, only to realise we'd been circling around it the whole time. In our defence it was very foggy.

The penultimate king to bear the title "Rex Pictorum" (King of the Picts) was either Eochaid ap Rhun or Giric mac Dungal, succeeding Áed mac Cináeda after he was "killed by his own associates". Annoyingly different sources have different stories on how this duo(?) ruled Pictland.

Reproduction of a Pictish pennanular brooch found in Galway, Ireland now in the @metmuseum.org in the USA. The original might be far away but we have many examples of this type of brooch here in Scotland.

You know for a supposedly "mysterious" people we actually know quite a lot about the Picts. Scholarship has come a long way from the days of taking Roman writings about the Maeatae and Caledonians at face value. That and the outlandish claims of the Pictish language's origins.
