Well no doubt we’ve got a massive shell midden at the Sands of Forvie - over 0.5m of shell deposits showing up in some of our test pits. Samples retrieved - we’ll let you know how old the site is as soon as we get the radiocarbon dates! Wonderful effort by our Level 3 University of Aberdeen students

This weekend we’ve been out with our third year UoA UG students investigating shell Middens at the Sands of Forvie on the Ythan estuary. Around 15 years ago we dug a series of middens at Forvie that turned out to be Pictish in date. Will this prove to be another example!? Early results look 👌

Cracker of a day yesterday at Burghead with one of the star finds being this beautiful bead found by Patrick one of our University of Aberdeen undergraduate students.

Well that was an absolutely phenomenal Day of the Picts. Thanks to the over 500 people who visited, chatted, toured, took part! We are blown over by the response and enthusiasm! Now for a well earned day of for our dig team!

Last night to keep the team spirits going we had a bin bag fashion show. Highlights included the three rhynie men, buttercup the horse, the grim reaper and a Pictish warrior. Rules- half hour to make costumes, only one prop allowed.

Next week - a talk on the excavations at Burghead Pictish Fort 2015-2025. All welcome!
