Was sad to see that the Arcade Fighting scene in Japan feels like it's dead or dying, ultimately replaced by console. Where there were once 8-10 cabs per game I saw only 2-4, even for Street Fighter. 10 years ago it still felt very alive.

I think these awards felt especially boring because categories like Best RPG and Best Indie each honor overall quality among a subset rather than a specific craft. If a game is the best of the year, and it’s an RPG, obviously it is also the best RPG. Needs an overhaul to avoid pointless repetition
