In 2025, San Diego Can't Look Away from the Screaming
A few weeks ago, a man in the alley behind our house began screaming. Screaming is not unusual around us, unfortunately. But usually it comes and goes – less frequent […]

Kind of obsessing about this assassination of the UnitedHealthCare CEO. The gunman went to Starbucks and then did murder and then rode a CitiBike away? Hard to imagine what more he could have done to leave a better trail.

FWIW I still think the grossest pardon/clemency was Schwarzenegger’s commutation of Fabian Nunez’s son after he killed Luis Santos at SDSU. “Considering Nunez's limited role in the killing…”

I haven’t watched a full NFL game until now this season. I was raised a Broncos fan. But I feel like these new unis look like the Chargers old dark blues too much from far away?

Here’s the deal, guys. I had a black belt in Twitter. I was a six sigma answerer of “What’s happening?” But they kept fucking with it and every time it felt worse and disrespectful to junkies like me. So I pulled way back. The idea of restarting here is exhausting.

The results of the presidential race in San Diego County compared to 2020. Trump got about the same number of votes but the Democratic ticket saw a steep drop off. Turnout: 2020: 83.5% 2024: 75.7%

Listening to the VOSD podcast with
@seanelorivera.bsky.social
and
@scottmlewis.bsky.social
discussing a similar topic regarding city parking lots. It would be cool to charge market rates for impacted lots and sell $50 resident placards for annual unlimited use, with nonresidents paying full price.

Anyone know of a good book or essay on how the country could realistically help the many people addicted to opioids get off them? It feels like there’s a lot available about the problem but so little about what possible solutions there are.

I decided to read all the post apocalyptic novels. I think I’m through the good ones (do I have to do Left Behind?). I’m watching The Stand (1994) now and is it so bad. I read it straight through. Amazing cast. But they’re like children reading lines in class.

Is it really a perk? Everyone can ask for donations to their pet causes. But unlike normals, elected officials have to disclose it when it works.

Looks like Oceanside’s mayor is going to be re-elected. And while Measure E is done, the margin closed and the margin is going to drive them nuts.

Guess we're doing this again. If you're a city politician considering some signaling around the words "sanctuary" don't be stupid. My column from the last time Trump was re-elected.

It appears the bulk (43,000) of the remaining ballots are conditional voter registration ballots, which require significant verification steps ... but still.

Looking at a poll testing Kamala Harris for governor of California, and already want to argue with anyone saying "Nixon tried that and lost." Nixon ran against an incumbent after winning his home state by 0.5 points. Harris would be running in an open seat after winning the state by 20 points.
