My personal perception is that my work generally doesn't fit neatly into one specific category. 'Fantasy' is generally my go-to because I like writing supernatural beings and magic more than tech and aliens, but the two bleed over into one another regularly.

Gosh, it's very situational for me. Certain types of villains I'd rather see defeated, some types are more satisfying when they're redeemed. I tend to write a mix of both.

Laurent (Yvain). He's a minor antagonist in Sword of the Voivode. He claims to be a copy of the late Sorcerer King Laurentius the Mad. While this sounds like a delusion to some, the former voivode Tymor Valentin has seen a man with his exact countenance before. No one yet knows his true motives.

Philly by Night is finally making its way onto the page again and I'm happy to have made so much progress on it in the last month or so. I wasn't sure if I'd finish any of my manuscripts this year, but I might finish writing this one at least!

Gonna conquer my fear of writing Romance with a capital 'R' this year with some research and backburner wip's as I work through some of my current projects. I don't dislike Romance as a genre, but it can be a hard genre to navigate from the outside.

One of my big pet peeves as a queer writer is the elimination/avoidance of queerness by authors writing 'historical' settings as 'not historically accurate'. To which I say, Bull-fucking-shit. You don't have to dig far to find queerness in every age, it's just been hidden from you. (cont)

Saint Vuretz is a trans saint from old Finndrigair. During the War of Madness, she took all the medical knowledge and people she could carry out of old Finndrigair and kept it safe for future generations. She's the patron saint of New (trans/nonbinary) People.

Cyril had to give up the ability to have children for his transition, since producing hormones means changing how his body produces them vs. modern hrt. While he doesn't regret his decision per se, he does mourn the loss of his fertility b/c he now finds himself wanting children as a stable adult.

I like publishing on my own schedule the best. It allows me to be flexible with myself. I deeply dislike having to hunt down individual services to make a book publishing ready. I don't have a team and indie author-to-author resource sharing is spotty and often genre dependent. (cont)

Daumantas vocally stims to help cast spells if he's not enchanting, which he does with knots, thread or sewing. The Ballad of the Dueling Princess is also a plot important song, as it tells of Cyril's exploits before his transition and self exile.

Too often! LOL Cyril accidentally got my anxiety and PTSD, Daumantas got my autism, Rudolph got both. I struggle with interpersonal relationships b/c of trauma and that features in my work quite a bit.

I'm realizing that I have nothing in common with authors who exist in a digital-only space, and I have literally no power to make an impact for the better in online bookish spaces. It's both frustrating and deeply saddening b/c I'm usually the only trans author at the small events I can attend.

In a classic, 'The characters will now take the reins' moment, I've discovered that the main conflict of Armor of the Saints is actually Svetlana not wanting to be her father's heir, which shifts that to her twin Daumantas. My boy is NOT HAPPY about it, but I have a central conflict!

Try not to obsess too much over numbers. It's easy to burn out if you're always checking your sales and likes on your promo posts. This is a marathon, not a race, and if you get discouraged at the start, it's hard to keep going.

Talking to both writers and readers online will help you faaaaaaaaar more than trying to bounce 'content' off an algorithm in terms of marketing and word-of-mouth Internet book sales. Other authors are your friends. Even if the chats are just casual, chat with people online.

I'm terrible at naming characters. I often will go through name lists until I vibe with something. I picked 'Cyril' from a list of saints and 'Valentin' from a list of common Ukranian surnames.
