After a solid 15 years of having a recurring nightmare about signing up for a college class, not knowing I was enrolled, and then getting an F, I have now unlocked the teacher version. It’s similar, where you somehow don’t find out that you’ve been assigned a class until the term is over. 😵‍💫😮‍💨

The things I make time for in summer

I always call the summer faculty conference “summer camp for grown ups” and people thing I’m joking but today we made friendship bracelets that described our semesters so really please know I am dead serious.

Stuff that doesn’t get old: seeing your work appear in journals you read and look up to, being able to read citations in your second language, being able to read a citation of yours in a bilingual journal (article is in English but I’d love to get to a place where I can translate the whole thing!)

Man, if I had a Time Machine, I would totally go tell my teenage self that I will one day become part of that MLA thing that my English teacher keeps yapping about.

Today a colleague of mine told me that in a meeting with some folks he’s doing a project with, my recent publication in Kairos came up and was used as an example with some praise by total strangers. As a PhD student and non-tenure-track faculty person, I couldn’t stop smiling. ☺️
