Review (pt2): Seattle Symphony premiere of @raymondyiu.bsky.social’s violin concerto “It’s the first time where I found modern music to be emotionally transporting, the substantive legacy of two cultures swirling together to become one balanced whole.”

Last night's program was so so good! We heard Bartok, Dvorak, and a new composition from Raymond Yiu. The violinist, Esther Yoo is damn good. She had such precision and control of her instrument. The audience got wine drunk and noisy, but otherwise a great night!

WOW. just heard Esther Yoo debut Raymond Yiu’s new violin concerto at the Seattle Symphony. incredible!!! really moves in a way you’d never imagine a concerto could move. and what talent!!

This is possibly the first time I am a ‘featured’ composer in an orchestra’s season. Rather excited to be bringing #ViolinConcerto (and the story of #MaSicong) to USA with #EstherYoo, #AlexanderShelley and #SeattleSymphony in April 2025! #馬思聰
