I think most of the time when people say "just play the game don't look up anything about it" you would be massively better served by just explaining what the game is and what it does well on a surface level, even if it conceals hidden depths. It's not that hard to pitch some of these.

Xenoblade 2 design discourse blows up every now and again because it doesn't require much knowledge or insight for a person to look at a character and go "that looks weird/cool", plus you don't need to have played the game to get involved either. Distracts from how utterly nonsense the story is.
