From a teacher's perspective, this is both the most significant problem and the largest blind spot among the educational community. So many teachers are focused on whether a student can get the "right" answer, not whether they "understand." So they're adapting to LLMs the most wrong way possible.

Another reason I hate AI is bc I think people stopped giving open note take home math exams bc of it. I vastly prefer having a few days to think through super hard problems, taking walks and coffee breaks in between, than the 1 hour in class exams.

I've always said "all writers start out writing fanfic, we just don't all call it that." I myself started out writing Wheel of Time collaborative fiction in what today would be called a play-by-post RPG. Having read this article, though, I'm going to have to adjust my language and thinking.

There are writers you respect. Writers you are in conversation with, always, in your work. Writers whose craft you aspire to, but whom you could never even hope to emulate. Writers who inspire. And then there's @kellylink.bsky.social who does all that AND always drops bangers for bluesky handles.
