Your daily reminder that as schools close for Easter break. 223000 children and young people continue to be made unwell by trying to access their education in a mainstream school. At no other point in history has the welfare of so many, mainly neurodivergent kids ignored to claim “inclusion”.

I'm going to try to do this (AuDHD permitting!) #AbleismAwareness isn't intended to compete with #AutismAwareness or #AutismAcceptance, but to complete it. A better understanding of ableism would've been helpful to me at the beginning of my autism journey. Maybe others will find this helpful too.

#AbleismAwareness What is Ableism? Ableism is usually defined as discrimination that favours non-disabled people. It's a conscious or unconscious belief that not being disabled is inherently "better" than being disabled. Non-disabled people's needs are prioritised because they're seen as "normal".

April is #AutismAwareness month. It's been going every year for decades, with the aim of making it easier for everyone to recognise autism and, ideally, work towards acceptance and inclusion. Can people stop being surprised that there seem to be more Autistic people because THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!

This World Bipolar Day, we stand with every child and family facing the hidden challenges of childhood brain injury and mental health, and we continue to push for awareness, understanding, and the right support at the right time.

How many are neurodivergent? Be interesting to know. No support available at colleges etc does have a negative impact particularly after not being in school for long periods. Not work ready and unable to continue with education. Sad. Our young people deserve better.

Daily reminder for politicians. It’s over 20 years of the presumption of mainstream. Both my young people are voting this year. Many young people have experienced years of part time timetables, internal exclusion unmet needs. 223000 kids currently not consistently in school. Who will they vote for?

The irony of “ inclusion” that rewards attendance while excluding those from an event says absolutely everything about education’s understanding of abelism, disability and increased health inequalities in the population (40%) with ASN. Improve attendance? No words 😶

223000 children mainly neurodivergent children are regularly absent in Scotland. Many are on part time or very part time timetables. 1 hour a week for example. Other have long lasting absences due to being burnt out by being consistently overwhelmed. We want national standardised accurate recording

18per cent are persistently absent. The usual solutions around attendance proposed. About send system lacks analysis and depth.
