As good a movie year as 2025 was, nothing really matched THE SHROUDS for its journey into one of humanity's greatest complexities - grief - with such intelligence, imagination, emotion and wit. Cronenberg remains the best of the best.

R.I.P. Johnny Legend - seen here in concert at the Continental Club in Austin, April 2012 - a true champion of all things strange and weird in movies and music and a real sweetheart of a guy. It's been a while since I've seen him, but it was always a blast when I did. I'll really miss him.

A 2025 sleeper that most slept on was Hwang Byeong-gug's corruption thriller YADANG: THE SNITCH, the best one of these to come out of South Korea in some time. With yet another terrific performance from one of the best actors around, Yoo Hai-jin, it was one of 2025's most satisfying movies.

I happened upon Daniel Mann's FITZWILLY on @tcmtv.bsky.social during the holidays a few years ago and it seemed a pleasant holiday watch. Now having seen it in full it's just that, a pleasant sit that works to entertain in an almost Ealing-style fashion. Not perfect, but sorta a perfect TCM movie.
