I've heard some people say that sci-fi games are too hard to run because you have to explain how everything works. No, you don't. You needn't know how sci-fi tech works the same way you needn't know how your phone works. Just say what a thing does and move on. It's no different from fantasy.

LLMs have fucked up a lot of things, but I'm not worried about the hardware crisis because we don't need 1000gb RAM and we dont need gtx 10000s or whatever. Hardware peaked in 2012. Make less expensive games. Make smaller experiences. Be better at optimisation.

It's always hard to make lists like this, but my criteria was which games can I boot up and play for over an hour right now. Outer Wilds doesn't quite fit that criteria for obvious reason, if you know the game, but it'll always be on one of these lists for me.

I've decided to put everything else down and spend the weekend making this.

I'm thinking of making a Roman themed Mausritter adventure called Sum Summus Mus.

I slapped together a layout in 10 minutes, and it unlocked something within me. I immediately saw what I was missing and what I was spending too much time on. It works, people!

I've reached that point in a design doc where I can't progress until I see the words in the layout. My brain simply can't make sense of it all just as text. How it flows is just as important as what is said.

Building spark tables has been the greatest boon to my game prep in recent years. They are fun to make and provide great prompts for improv.

I have two big aspects of my sci-fi game in conflict. I either need to figure out how to make them work in tandem, give one of them the cut, or decide that the friction they create is a good thing. These are the decisions I'm hoping that public playtesting will help resolve.

After working on a sci-fi game for 3 years now, naturally I was concerned that Intergalactic Bastionland would make it redundant. After looking through the playtest, they share some elements but are very different beasts. Even if it's overshadowed, some people might enjoy what my game has to offer.

These were for an old world building project about living gods. I still enjoy thinking about this world, so I may pick it up or adapt it into something else in the future. First is Ashia, the patron of secret intimacy. Second is Hagrava, the patron of suffering’s end.
