I think one thing that @coreyatad.com is missing (though maybe he mentioned it somewhere in all this?) is that the subscription function ruined Twitter. Engagement on my posts disappeared after you had to pay to get into the algorithm. It wasn’t just the garbage people, but the garbage program.
