I continue to have inescapable deja vu (at a larger scale) about all of this with basically all of the tech hucksterism over the last decade: gamification, metaverse, crypto, NFTs, stuff people (sometimes literally the same people) told us was inevitable until it wasn't.

In a just society Open AI would be facing closure as a result of the suicide case currently in the media. But it won't, because profits and investment are more important than people's lives.
