In the New Yorker this week, a story I've been trying to get off the ground for 5 years... about a Hollywood stuntwoman-turned-personal-injury-lawyer, her ex-con fiancee, high-speed crashes with 18-wheelers, and economic desperation in 21st century America. It's set in New Orleans and it's a doozy.

A weird byproduct of the awards season industrial complex is there are certain good actors who I always used to like but now just find annoying, like a party guest who won't shut up or leave.

All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post — including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East — based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.

I cheered when I recognised @praddenkeefe.bsky.social in Industry’s S4 finale (finally, some sound journalism on the show!); it led me to his new book, which aptly shares the murky, false glitz of Industry’s universe. Say Nothing was unputdownable, am excited/impatient for London Falling’s release!
