Back to character design projects. I had this idea for Waning Gibbon, a dual-element HVAC robot for a while and finally got somewhere with it. I'm thinking this is a Silhouette Mirage situation where in a side scrolling game, they use ice or fire attacks based on if they are facing left or right.

Been hard at work on this Afterglow rig in Moho all month. I am trying WAY TOO MUCH and want her to be able to do everything lol. Primarily I just want her to be able to pull of fluid dance moves. I think I am on the right track - just have to finish her bottom half and add hand swaps.

Working on a few little dances for Afterglow. This turned out more like her just flailing around, I think I'll use either half of it as a transition between other dance loops to get her moving around the screen more. And instead of inking and coloring this by hand, I'm gonna make a rig.

The industry leaders speaking at a AI-focused event I just attended posed a question they can't solve to the audience: as AI reduces the workforce and asks for higher skill sets for employees, how is the younger generation not left behind? They have no idea what to do here and that's terrifying.

We all hate genAI here, but we need to be careful not to act like stubborn airbrush artists hearing about Thomas Knoll's new "photoshop" in 1990. As creatives, we should fight off AI slop but also fight to define "AI" as a tool. Just like Photoshop ended up being for those angry airbrushers.

Finished and colored up version of this Afterglow sheet. Want an embarrassing fact? Despite her whole deal being that her skin can glow and change color I haven't really drawn her DOING that other than slapping a cheap outer glow on a hand here and there. I'll change that soon.

I want Nintendo to make a sprawling sci fi space epic that weaves in Star Fox, Metroid, and F-Zero. They have so many space mercenaries/bounty hunters and never let them hang out other than silly tongue in cheek references. Make it real!

Trying some shenanigans with a 2D rig "3D rotation". It's about 30 layers dynamically changing layer order over time + lots of vector point motion tweens of the shapes. It's not quite convincing yet but good for a first pass I would say. I want Hivehead performing more actions as the camera "pans".

I wanna share a current musical obsession of mine. Stage 1-1 and 1-2 of Jumping Flash!, and how it goes from cheerful to melancholic in a way very similar to Sonic 3's Angel Island. Here is 1-1. Love the bagpipes and that very low pitched echoy chord that pipes in here and there.

Went to look at adoptable cats today, one of them was a tiny orange and white kitten just like Graham was 17 years ago and it really stung. Getting to hold him felt nice, though. Didn't go home with any, I think I need to wait more.
