It’s still early, but my first impression of WWE 2K24 is that it’s nowhere near as much fun as AEW: Fight Forever. It’s prettier and flashier, but it’s just not as interesting in its moment to moment action. It feels more like watching than playing most times.

Nintendo’s ability to make even the most basic thing terrible is fascinating. Gold points were crappy, but useful. They eliminated them. Platinum points are useless, but if you do happen to see something you like, shipping usually kills it. Now, there’s an added NSO requirement to kill it deader.

AEW: Fight Forever is definitely No Mercy. It’s great. It’s exactly what it set out to be. I have no complaints. I’m not sure why people didn’t go hard for it, maybe because they weren’t 8 years old when it came out. It’s a great game.

I recently decided to give the N64 wrestling games another go. I think I finally understand how to play. Well, No Mercy at least. I still find them weird in how opaque they are with the basic information I feel I need as a traditional fighting game fan, but yeah, I'm getting it & having fun.

One of the things that makes Third Strike special for me is that parrying is a perfect example of how a fighting game mechanic can completely undermine everything about fighting game design while still being fucking awesome.

I put that big Amigavision collection on my Mister, but I still haven’t found a game I like. I mainly wanted to try Turrican II, and I did, but it was so odd that I thought something might be wrong. I actually bought Anthology on Switch & found that the game really is just like that. Not for me.

I just finished Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. Both better and worse than expected. I’m really glad I played through it though. Overall, I was definitely impressed. There’s a lot to like. I’m glad I went back to try it again following the @caneandrinse.com episode. Now for a relisten.
