I just found out that around 20% of the neanderthal genome still exists today in living people!! No individual person has more than 3 or 4% but we don't all have the same bits. If you add up all the bits we've found, about a fifth of the Neanderthal genome is still present on earth today.

Barker is spot on here about Austen - delicate and ferocious. If you don't see her ferocity, you're not reading her properly. I love both Pat Barker and Jane Austen. ❤️

I've spent a week researching historical court practices, then wrote over 4k words of a court case. Today cut the whole chapter. I tend to get lost in research sometimes. But today, reading through the MS I realized the detailed chapter didn't fit. It was cathartic to cut.

Y'all, discoverability is harder than ever. With Twitter all but gone and publishing being --in a mood-- your favorite authors are floundering. We don't know how to reach our fans or find new readers. Telling someone about a book you love is a really big deal. That's the #1 reason people buy books!
