The religion of the majority of white Christians is whiteness ( Emerson and Bracey 2024). Therefore anyone who stands against white supremacy they no longer consider a brother or sister, but an enemy.

Clearly, there are many Italian people who should have been honored instead. But honoring Columbus had the ability to help elevate Italians into whiteness because of his connection to genocide and white supremacy. His cruelty is part of the point.

Great argument for “Why sociology?”

This such an important read and scholarship...so many are emphasizing that reconstruction in light of the destruction we're seeing must be a process, not of reflexively rebuilding the same structures, but rather reimagining something much better. There's also no reason not to start right now.

This is important. I'm sure many of you experienced what I experienced for many, many years. Training programs, corporate promises, pledges to do more etc, but no real change.
