Following the Scottish Government’s final child poverty delivery plan, new stats out yesterday show both relative and absolute child poverty fell by 1 percentage point in 2022-25 compared to 2021-24. Relative child poverty after housing costs was 21% and absolute poverty was 23%.

Last year, we worked with ScotCen to include 11 questions about health inequalities & prevention in the annual Scottish Social Attitudes survey. Crucially: 94% of the population thinks it’s important for the Scottish Government to reduce the health gap between rich & poor people.

(1/5) New National Records of Scotland statistics show life expectancy in Scotland is now 81.06 for women and 77.12 for men. It has risen slightly since 2021–23, nearly back to pre-pandemic levels, but progress is modest and inequalities remain central.

1/7 New stats from @NatRecordsScot show 1017 drug misuse deaths in Scotland in 2024. That’s down 13% from 2023 - the lowest level since 2017. A welcome shift but drug deaths remain far higher in Scotland than elsewhere in Europe & are deeply tied to poverty and inequality.
