1/7 New stats from @NatRecordsScot show 1017 drug misuse deaths in Scotland in 2024. That’s down 13% from 2023 - the lowest level since 2017. A welcome shift but drug deaths remain far higher in Scotland than elsewhere in Europe & are deeply tied to poverty and inequality.

1/4 The latest child poverty stats for Scotland (to March 2024) are out. Relative and absolute poverty fell to 22% and 17%, but persistent child poverty rose to 23%. All remain above interim targets, meaning the Scottish Government has missed its goals.

Public Health Scotland has published new estimates of opioid dependence in Scotland from 2014/15 to 2022/23. In 2022/23, 43,400 people aged 15-64 were estimated to be opioid dependent—1.23% of the population. That’s down slightly from 1.30% in 2021/22.
