Forensic Scientometrics (FoSci) Report 2026: Understanding, Detecting, and Documenting Manipulation in the Research Ecosystem
The FoSci Report 2026 establishes Forensic Scientometrics (FoSci) as a data-driven discipline dedicated to understanding, detecting, and documenting manipulation across the research ecosystem to strengthen scientific integrity. The field organizes its investigations into three interdependent levels: the micro level, which focuses on anomalies in individual papers; the meso level, which targets organized misconduct networks; and the macro level, which addresses systemic issues. The report provides contributions from experts across these topics, outlining methodologies, examples, and proposing a roadmap of solutions for publishers, institutions, and policymakers to combat the gradual undermining of science.
