Today is the three year anniversary of the covid infection that seemingly changed my life. There are still no approved treatment for Long Covid. I work very hardy to enjoy what I can, and if you've seen my in the last three years, you know I try and stay positive.

Finished my Battlestar rewatch. I love the shows intentions, its interrogation of humanity, its explorations of faith. I also love its imperfections - I think there's a lot of soul in writing week to week, it feels organic and messy in a way that works for me.

Nomad & My Heart is That Eternal Rose are two of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. This @filmsradiance.bsky.social release is stunning - it was pleasure to swim in the imagery of David Chung & Christopher Doyle. Now desperate to see more Patrick Tam.

Mid season 4 on my Battlestar Galactica rewatch - the ensemble for this show is incredible. Olmos, McDonnell, Bamber, Callis & Sackhoff have always carried the dramatic weight of the human fleet, but Michael Hogan's emergence as the heartbeat of the show is so welcome. A truly extraordinary actor.

Considering that The Exorcist and The French Connection had considerable impact on me, I'm sorely under-watched when it comes to William Friedkin. This week I did a double bill of Hunted and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.

Speaking of learning to enjoy what I can, here are my favourite first time watches of the year.

Approaching a third Christmas with Long Covid. I've learned to enjoy what I can, but find myself reflecting on another year of constant cancellations and complete lack of freedom. It is crushing watching life go by without you. Praying 2025 brings new research and treatments.

Dangerous To Know finally delivered the Anna May Wong performance I've been looking for in the B-Movies she made for Paramount. The film explodes into life in the last 10 thanks to Wong's luminous, heartbreaking turn. She finds incredible depth in thin material & hits such melodramatic highs.

I finished Derf Backderf's staggering graphic novel this morning. A sensitive and thoroughly-researched re-telling of a horrific moment in history. A tragic read that I'll be reflecting on for a long time.
