_**The Feelies - Hurrah, New York City, September 11, 1980**_ Like any self-respecting Feelies freak, I’ve long enjoyed the various clips of The Feelies at Hurrah in September of 1980 that have surfaced on YouTube. But it was only just recently that I realized you could watch the entire 45 minute set! Be forewarned, it’ll cost ya — but $5 gets you a front row seat to an absolutely ferocious Feelies gig, with the band at their just-post-_Crazy Rhythms_ height. It’s a one-camera affair, but the minimalist setup and excellent sound quality captures the band’s kinetic energy perfectly. You are there! Speaking of being there, here’s an eyewitness account of the gig from the Cornell Daily Sun: “Hurrah’s was packed, and the crowd was very enthusiastic, reflecting the appeal the band has for rockers (excellent guitar work and heavy rhythms), new wavers (excessively danceable), and punks (a new aesthetic shared by bands like DNA and the Lounge Lizards). The first encore was their version of the Beatles’ ‘Everybody’s Got Something to Hide (Except Me And My Monkey)’ which they turn into a furiously paced rhythmic romp. You can’t help hopping as Glen Mercer’s rubbery guitar comes on over Keith Clayton’s bass line in the middle of the song (Clayton rushes to the edge of the stage for his highlighted eight measures). The Feelies give off energy. They practically shed it. From the look of them it may have been building up for a long time.
